Why Is Kid President In A Commercial?
Earlier this week, a nationwide campaign we worked on with Meineke began airing on television sets across the country. Are we excited? Kind of.
I feel we owe it to you to explain why Kid President is suddenly popping up on your television - especially since we’ve been so vocal about not going this direction. Many of you believed in Kid President before the rest of the world cared. Many of you dear people even believed in me before it made any sense to. I want you to know we are not changing course. We are still committed to using our work to continue encouraging people to live with more compassion and more joy.
We’ve been presented with countless opportunities to be involved in films, television, campaigns, events, product lines, etc and have repeatedly responded with ‘no’. Every decision is made by the family based on whether or not it fits with our mission and the story we want to tell.
A :30 television spot isn’t always the best platform to do that. I’m fine if there are a few people out there who don’t get it or whatever, but I desperately want to make sure you know where our hearts are at. Many will not see the whole picture, but you know us. So - here is why Kid President is doing a commercial:
1. We wanted to work with the Pitch Agency in Los Angeles, CA. They believe in using advertising to move people into action for social good.
2. We wanted to be part of Meineke’s Community Tune-Up Program. They give local dealerships the chance to give back thousands to their local communities. We’d like to see this grow and go towards helping kids all over the U.S. in some big ways.
3. We wanted to work on a large set with a crew for the first-time ever. For several months we’ve been trying to see how we could possibly do a television show. This was a safe way to see how Robby and I could work in that type of setting.
4. It sets us up for more opportunities to do and create good.
That’s the bottom line. Thank you for believing in us, trusting us and helping spread the message we’ve been working to put out into the world. I never imagined I’d ever be part of creating anything so many people feel so passionate about. I’m humbled, honored and, to be perfectly honest, frightened. It’s only by faith that we’re able to navigate this new terrain and I ask for your prayers and your love.
I’d also like to ask for your money, because that’s all I care about now. Just kidding. Had to make sure you actually read until the end.
all the love in the universe,
(guy trying to figure it out)
